Scarce genuine WWII French Army colonial troops fez, scarlet wool, adorned with the insignia of the 2e Régiment de zouaves (2nd Zouave Regiment). Intended for Other Ranks. Complete with leather sweatband. Production and reception markings, though still visible inside, have faded and become illegible. Size corresponds to 6 7/8 (US) or 6 3/4 (UK).

Created in Oran, French Algeria in 1852, the '2e zouaves' saw action in France during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 and again during the Great War. The unit deployed to the Near East in 1939 and was disbanded in late 1940, prior to being reactivated in Algeria in 1944. The regiment subsequently landed in Provence in August, fought hard in the Vosges, and ultimately reached Germany in 1945.
