Genuine WWII leather US M3 modified shoulder holster for pistol M-1911A1 Cal .45, manufactured by Enger-Kress and dated 1944. The sling had been removed and a hook added to secure the holster on the metal eyelets of the M-1936 pistol belt. Two names are written on the holster : S/Sgt. Len J. Muellerleile et Allen O. Gartman. Both men served with the Mighty Eighth Air Force's 34th Bomb Group.

Sgt. Al Gartman, ASN 37677869 enlisted in the Army in September of 1943 and served over 2 years during WWII. After training in the Army Al qualified for entrance into the Army Air Corp. He served with the 8th Air Force 34th Bomb Group as a tail gunner flying B-17s and B-24s. As a Sgt. stationed in England Al flew 18 bombing missions over Germany with his flight crew known as “Mike’s Missionaries.”

Introduced for USAAF pilots in 1942, this model was subsequently used in every branch of the military and was particularly popular among airborne troops.
