Body Armor, Flyer's, Type A Vest + Type C Apron, 1943
Genuine WWII body armor, comprising the Type A vest and Type D apron. This anti-flak set was developed in 1942-1943 in conjunction with Wilkinson Sword, first intended for 8th Air Force aircrews who had been experiencing various types of wounds during missions over Europe. Initially manufactured in England, it was soon massively produced in the United States. Protection was provided by manganese steel plates. A quick-release system allowed the wearer to get rid of the whole set in case of emergency. A few of them were issued to the Royal Air Force (see picture).
This complete body armor is in excellent condition and retains all its original straps. Manufactured by Hopkins & Allen in 1943.
