Nice genuine WWII USAAF, Type B-2 winter flying cap, featuring a large leather visor, manufactured by Shaw Barton, Inc. Label still present, AC order dated 1943, size 7 3/8.

This cap was popular with many crewmen after its introduction in 1939. Made of one-forth-inch sheep shearling, it was worn through the end of the war in almost every theater of operations in spite of wartime efforts to limit is use to ground personnel.

Commonly referred to as the 'gunners' cap', this shearling cap is one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable items of WWII US headgear. Usually worn with its bill turned up, it was popular with both aircrew and those groundcrew who could get hold of them.

Aircraft and ground crew of Boeing B-17F-25-BO Fortress “Hell’s Angels” (AAF Ser. No. 41-24577) of the 358th Bomb Squadron, 303rd Bomb Group, RAF Molesworth. This was the first B-17 to complete 25 combat missions in the 8th Air Force, on 13 May 1943.
