Very nice genuine WWI US Army M-1917 Brodie helmet, featuring a hand-painted 7th Infantry Division insignia on the front. Shell is hallmarked HS 69 inside. Two separate projectiles have hit the present helmet: the first one, located on the right front, has pierced the steel, while the second, on the right rear of the upper part of the shell, has just hammered the metal.

Complete with original liner, which has come apart; most of the leather chinstrap is still present. Size 6 7/8.

The first elements of the 7th Infantry Division landed in France in late July 1918. The division was not engaged in combat as a whole yet various elements saw action in the vicinity of St. Mihiel prior to being deployed in Lorraine. Eventually, the 7th ID sustained over 200 fatal casualties, while some 1,500 of its men had been wounded in action.

An amazing American Expeditionary Force relic in good, used condition -- don't miss it!
