Scarce genuine WWI US Army grouping, which belonged to some Adolph Johnson, who deployed to France in 1918 with the 33rd Engineers as part of the American Expeditionary Force, and made up of the following artifacts:

- an M-1917 Brodie helmet, adorned with a stunning hand-painted camouflage based on the German 'turtle' scheme seen on the M-1916 Stahlhelm; complete with its liner retaining all components including felt pad, leather chinstrap and label; shell is hallmarked ZB55 (very good overall condition);
- a canvas and leather musette bag, whose flap bears initials US and the following handwritten markings: A. Johnson, 33rd Engrs. A.E.F. 1918-19. (used condition);
- a colorized photograph, framed, in which he poses with his rifle (fragile);
- an original copy of the Honor Roll of Ramsey County, Minnesota, edited in 1919, complete, 363 pages (fragile).

The present lot comes along with various American Legion commemorative medals for the years 1924, 1928, 1929, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1939, 1941, 1952 and 1954, as well as some pictures taken on the occasion of different parades; name Adolph Johnson and mention North Saint Paul, Minnesota are visible on the badges pinned to most of these medals.

A great homogeneous set.

Although no Adolph Johnson is clearly listed in the above-mentioned Honor Roll, several homonyms lived in St. Paul and Ramsey County during the same period. One of them makes a credible 'candidate' -- born on November 7, 1895 in St. Paul, he was discharged with the rank of Private First Class, and passed away on March 23, 1981 (see link below).
