New Testament, Shield, Gold-Plated, "May this keep you safe from harm", 1944, Named

Genuine WWII US pocket New Testament featuring a gold-plated steel shield on the front cover, on which is engraved the sentence 'May this keep you safe from harm'. When placed in the breast pocket, this item was supposed to stop a bullet or shrapnel and save the soldier's life…

The present copy is complete and in good overall condition, although the binding tends to come apart. Various handwritten inscriptions indicate that this bible was presented to Arnold B. Larson by some Louise Oldham on January 14, 1944. A photograph, in which the latter may pose, is still present in the book.
