Manufactured by Artek-Pascoe, Inc. and dated January 4, 1944, the packboard is made in shaped plywood and fitted with a wide canvas panel attached on both sides; introduced in 1943, this version was a simpler alternative to the earlier Yukon packboard. The pack, which could weight up to 40 pounds when loaded, was used as a possible substitute for the medical chests at forward aid stations; thanks to its various straps, it could be attached to both the early or late versions of the above-mentioned packboard, and saw extensive use in the medical detachments of infantry regiments and other special units, such as the First Special Service Force.
