Machete, M-1942, COLLINS & CO., Legitimus, 1942, with Leather Scabbard, ALCO 42, Modified, Named, Normandy
Genuine WWII US M1942 machete, 18-inch blade. Manufactured by Collins & Co. and dated 1942; black bakelite grips. Comes in some leather scabbard, manufactured by Alpco in 1942 and initially designed for the 22-inch machete -- the tip has been shortened and name Pavey was carved on the front. Homogeneous set in quite good, used condition, found in Normandy.

Interesting genuine WWII US M1942 machete, 17.9-inch blade. Production markings are illegible due to oxidation; the grip has been covered with friction tape to improve handling properties. Comes in its original OD 7 canvas scabbard, dated 1944 and on the reverse of which ASN 31303957 and initials E.J.B. have been written. Earl John Burgess was born on January 21, 1918 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and joined the US Army on March 13, 1943. Genuine WWII US Legitimus machete, sawback type (57 teeth), manufactured by Collins & Co. The Spanish language label still present on the blade indicates that this tool was most likely intended for being exported to Latin America at some point. Machetes were quite popular with crews manning machine guns and mortars, among others. Blade length: 20in. Comes in an original US Navy Mk 2 khaki canvas scabbard. Nice homogeneous set, in good overall condition.
