Genuine WWII US Army epistolary correspondence, made up of three V-Mail letters sent to Corporal Robert M. Johnston by a relative of his, and a third one sent to the latter by some Lieutenant Ralph Thomson.

In order to standardize, hasten and facilitate the shipping and delivery of the mail written by servicemen deployed overseas, the US Army instituted the V-Mail system in 1942; the message would be written on a special form which was then photographed on 16mm film by the theater of operations processing center.

Nine photographs (original prints) and a Defense Stamp Album (blank) complete this nice homogeneous set, in very good overall condition.

Robert Monroe Johnston was born on August 3, 1915 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and joined the US Army on November 27, 1941 (ASN 36161319). He went on to serve with the Medical Department, deploying to Tunisia and Italy with 33rd General Hospital, and was discharged on November 26, 1945 as a Corporal. He passed away on January 16, 2008.
