This all-rubber type was subsequently superseded by the neoprene and rubber type, which was issued to the First Special Service Force in Italy and in the French Alps, prior to being used on a larger scale in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 -- particularly by troops of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions.
