Nice genuine WWII German haversac, heavy duty cloth with leather straps, of the type introduced in February 1940 and intended for superseding the Tornister for artillery personnel.
Inside, this simple backpack features two compartments thanks to a thin cotton cloth separation.
Excellent overall condition; retains its original drawstring and pin buckles in working order.
Genuine pre-WWII German cowhide rucksack M34 Tornister with natural hair. Manufactured by E.G. Leuner in Bautzen, Saxony and dated 1936.
This backpack was intended for carrying personal impedimenta: the innner pocket of the flap held the cleaning utensils, a towel, a sewing kit and a shirt. The centre of the main compartment held the cooking pot with bread ration and cutlery, the sides contained the ankle boots with their cleaning kit, some pairs of socks filling any gaps. Between the flap and the body of the rucksack could be placed work trousers and high boots if available.
The Tornister was simplified as the war progressed and the cowhide cover was eliminated for economical and practical considerations.
Ink markings visible under the flap tend to indicate that the previous owner may have served with 1. Kompanie of Jäger-Regiment 80 -- more likely Infanterie-Regiment 80 .
This rucksack, which is in quite good, used condition, shows a few signs of repair yet retains all original straps and buckles.
Great genuine WWII German brown leather belt, retaining its original steel buckle adorned with the Heer eagle and showing remnants of Feldgrau paint.
The belt itself is dated 1940; the leather tab located behind the buckle plate is dated 1941.
Quite good, worn condition.
Overall length: 39.7in.
