Rare genuine pre-WWII US Army 45th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia, of the early production type.
Introduced in 1924, this first type was made up of a swastika -- a symbol which can be found in various cultures across the globe, including Native American tribes -- embroidered in yellow thread on red felt. Following the appropriation of this sign by the NSDAP, a second version of the patch was adopted in 1939, in which the controversial item was replaced with the Thunderbird.
The division subsequently fought in Sicily, mainland Italy, France, and Germany.
Mint, unissued condition.
