Nice genuine WWII US Western Shark fighting knife, hallmarked Western, Boulder, Colo., Pat. No. 1,967,479 on the ricasso. Bowie type blade (5.7in), grip made of stacked leather washers, bakelite pommel. This type was particularly popular with USMC and USN aicrews in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Good overall condition; comes in its original russet leather scabbard, at the back of which the following inscription has been engraved: 10th C.B. Frank B. Gebhardt . Frank Benjamin Gebhardt was born on February 19, 1905 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and joined the US Navy on April 21, 1942 (service number 622-75-87). He went on to serve with the 10th Naval Construction Battalion from July 3, 1942 onwards -- his name still appears on the Muster Roll in September 1944. The various elements of the unit deployed to the Pacific, particularly in Midway. Genuine WWII US fighting knife, identical to the version manufactured by E.G. Waterman yet showing no markings. Though not a standard regulation issue, this type saw service in most theaters of operations. Blade length: 7.3in. Complete and in quite good overall condition; comes in its original russet leather scabbard, on which name "Swens" has been carved; snap fastener of securing strap is in working order. Herbert Swens was born on August 30, 1921 in Hartford, Connecticut in a family of Swedish-Finnish ancestry and joined the US Army on October 20, 1942 (ASN 32535293). He went on to serve with the Air Corps and deployed to Europe along with 533rd Bomb. Squadron, 381st Bomb. Group, 8th Air Force. Genuine WWII US RH-36 fighting knife, manufactured by PAL Cutlery Co . and hallmarked on the left side of the ricasso, featuring a 6.1-inch 'Bowie' blade and dull-metal pommel. The grip is fashioned out of leather washers. This is one of the various hunting knives purchased by the government -- or privately bought -- prior to the introduction of the M3 Trench Knife. Issued to all branches of service: Army, Navy, Marine Corps... Comes in its original leather scabbard -- securing strap has been changed. Homogeneous set, in used condition.
