Nice genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet liner, of the synthetic resin-coated, compressed-fiber type manufactured by Firestone. A Captain rank insignia has been attached onto the front.
Complete with khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, russet leather sweatband, and green-painted A washers. The following markins have been painted inside: W.J. Choquette, Capt. Sig. C, 109 Sig Bn.
Genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet liner, manufactured by International Molded Plastic Co. The outer surface retains most of its original paint and features the Armored Force insigna (decal). Complete with leather chinstrap, khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, russet leather sweatband, and blackened-brass A washers. Quite good, worn condition.

The outer surface, which retains most of its original paint, has been adorned with name Oberer and a pair of crossed anchors that correspond to the rating of Coxswain. Khaki cotton web suspension and neckband, russet leather sweatband and OD-painted A washers are still present.

Robert James Oberer was born on April 20, 1925 in Rochester, New York to a Swiss father and an Austrian mother and joined the US Navy on December 28, 1942 (service number 609-07-18). He sailed to North Africa aboard the USS Tarazed (AF-13), a cargo ship, and later served on the USS North Carolina (BB-55), a battleship which deployed to the Pacific. He passed away in 2006.
