Remnants of some genuine WWII US Army Graves Registration Service temporary burial identification tag, on which the following partial inscription is still legible: John M. Vick[...] 19100198 St. Avold 7200.

John Marvin Vickroy was born on November 21, 1918 in Chariton, Iowa and joined the US Army on July 13, 1942 (ASN 19100198). He went on to serve with Company A, 355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division, deployed to Europe and was eventually killed in action on March 28, 1945 in Bad Schwalbach, Hesse, Germany. His remains were initially buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery at Saint-Avold, Moselle, France, prior to being repatriated in October 1948 and interred at Red Oak, Iowa.
