Great genuine WWII USAAF outer jacket, intended for being worn with matching trousers (not included here) to form the Type F-2 electrically-heated flying suit.
Made in wool serge and fitted with a sheep's fleece collar, this garment features two buttoned-flap breast pockets.
The label indicates a production by General Electric; size 36.
Excellent overall condition; retains all original plastic buttons; the electric insert is not provided.
A russet leather wallet adorned with the Air Corps insignia comes along with this jacket; some wedding photo, identification card, motor vehicle operator's permit and other documents indicate that the present set, which comes from this man's family, once belonged to some Leonard Joseph Clements, Jr.
Leonard Joseph Clements, Jr. was born on September 20, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois and joined the US Army on September 21, 1942 (ASN 17120516). He went on to serve in the Air Corps, was awarded his aerial gunner's badge in August 1944, and deployed to Europe with 338th Bomb. Squadron, 96th Bomb. Group, 8th Air Force. He was killed in action on March 23, 1945 when the B-17 Flying Fortress aboard which he served as a nose gunner was hit by Flak during a raid on the rail junction of Kitzingen, Germany.
