Nice genuine WWII US Army M3 brown leather shoulder holster intended for the Colt M1911A1 Pistol, caliber .45.
Manufactured by Boyt and dated 1943.
Introduced for Air Forces pilots in 1942, this type was subsequently used in most branches of the military and became particularly popular among airborne troops and armored crews.
Quite good, used condition; the belt loop and the shoulder strap buckle are missing.
The following mention has been engraved on the front: Lt. R.F. Finch O-693853 1943.
Robert Foster Finch was born on July 20, 1917 in Rockmart, Georgia and joined the Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet on August 13, 1941 (ASN 34086518). He was awarded his pilot's wings and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on October 1st, 1943 (ASN O-693853), prior to deploying to Europe with 525th Bomb. Squadron, 379th Bomb. Group, 8th Air Force, participating in some 33 missions -- including one on D-Day -- with B-17G Flying Fortress serial #42-31085 coded FR-D, known as Anita Marie and Mehitabel, from March 6 to June 19, 1944. A recipient of the Air Medal, he was discharged on September 27, 1945, and passed away on August 16, 1976.
