Genuine WWII US rubberized cloth pouch, containing four V-mail forms (blank). In order to standardize, hasten and facilitate the shipping and delivery of the mail written by servicemen deployed overseas, the US Army instituted the V-mail system in 1942. The message would be written on a special form which was then photographed on 16mm film by the theater of operations  V-mail processing center. Good overall condition; snap fastener is in working order.

Carving Sylvester Elliott was born on September 29, 1918 in Cadiz, Kentucky and joined the US Army on April 2, 1943. Genuine WWII US Army instruction sheet for packboard, second pattern. The latter was made of shaped plywood and featured a wide canvas panel laced on the sides, following the curves of the wearer's back. This type was introduced as a simpler alternative to the earlier Yukon Packboard. Widely used to carry heavy and bulky loads such as ammunition crates, rations, jerrycans, crew-served weapons, medical equipment, and other various supplies. The present document is in quite good overall condition despite a tear. Dated 1944.
