Bernard Joseph Ryan, whose paternal grandparents had emigrated from County Tipperary, Ireland, was born on June 1st, 1916 in Chateaugay, New York. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1940 and joined the US Army on February 11, 1943. He was awarded his 'jump wings' and went on to deploy to Europe with 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division, taking part in all major campaigns from Normandy to Holland and from Belgium to Germany. A recipient of the Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, he was discharged on November 25, 1945 as a Captain. He passed away on February 14, 2005.
