Genuine WWII handwritten letter, sent by his spouse to some Private First Class George L. Downing, 1st Infantry Division.
Made up of two sheets, the present document comes in its original envelope, which retains its stamp, postmarked on September 3, 1945; a photograph in which Downing appears completes this lot.
George Lee Downing was born on October 11, 1912 in St. Louis, Missouri and joined the US Army on March 24, 1944 (ASN 37636043). He went on to serve with Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, deployed to Europe and was discharged on May 22, 1946 as a Sergeant. He passed away on March 14, 1971.
