Pilot Log Book, Cpt. Thomas Morris, 93rd TCS, 439th TCG, 9th Air Force, USAAF, Neptune & Market Garden
Scarce genuine WWII USAAF pilot log book.
Complete and in good overall condition; once belonged to some Thomas L. Morris, from his basic training on Fairchild PT-19 in December 1941 to his last flights on Douglas C-47 Skytrain in Europe in April 1945.
Thomas Lee Morris was born on December 26, 1919 in Elmo, Texas and joined the Air Corps on August 23, 1940 (ASN 18024093). He was awarded his pilot wings as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942 (officer's ASN O-525994), prior to being promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1943, Captain in 1944, and Major in 1945.
He deployed to Europe as Operation Officer (S-3) of 93rd Troop Carrier Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force and participated in Operations Neptune (Normandy) and Market Garden (Holland); on June 6, 1944, he flew C-47 SKytrain #43-15649, which carried elements of 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division.
Discharged on November 4, 1945, he returned to active duty from March 1958 to March 1975, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. A recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, he passed away on May 5, 2007.
