Telegram, Pvt. Lewis Crook, Co. D, 25th Tank Bn., 14th Armored Division, KIA December 14, 1944, France
Genuine wartime telegram, sent by the US government to some Bessie E. Crook on December 29, 1944 to inform her of the death of her son, Private Lewis L. Crook, which had taken place in France two weeks earlier.
Quite good overall condition; comes along with its original envelope, postmarked on January 1st, 1945.
Lewis Linley Crook was born on March 18, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska and joined the US Army on December 1st, 1942 (ASN 39546480). He went on to serve with Company D, 25th Tank Battalion, 14th Armored Division and deployed to Europe, where he was killed in action on December 14, 1944 in the vicinity of Wissembourg, Alsace. Initially buried in a temporary cemetery at Hochfelden, Alsace, his body was repatriated in the spring of 1949.
