Correspondence, Epistolary, V-Mail, 2nd Lt. Clarence Wilson, 455th Bomb. Group, 15th Air Force, USAAF, MTO & ETO
Genuine WWII USAAF epistolary correspondance of the V-Mail type, which once belonged to some 2nd Lieutenant Clarence F. Wilson, officer's ASN O-573783, Headquarters Company, 455th Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force.
In order to standardize, hasten and facilitate the shipping and delivery of mail written by servicemen deployed overseas, the US Army instituted the V-Mail system in 1942. The message would be written on a special form which was then photographed on 16mm film by the theater of operations processing center.
Nice homogeneous lot, in very good overall condition, made up of letters sent to the above-mentioned officer by some family and friends in the United States and in Canada, as well as letters written by the said officer and sent to these people.
Clarence Fraser Wilson was born on May 11, 1914 in Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada and joined the US Army Air Corps on April 15, 1942 (ASN 12077484). He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in January 1943 and went on to deploy to Italy with 455th Bomb. Group. Retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he passed away on June 27, 2002.
