Genuine WWII US Army dog tag, of the early porduction type, issued to Homer A. Sappington, officer's ASN O-209912, vaccinated against tetanus in 1941 and 1943, blood type O, Protestant -- with his spouse's name and address.

Homer Arthur Sappington was born on September 28, 1895 in Yatesville, Georgia and joined the National Guard in July 1914. Promoted to Sergeant in August 1917 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant one year later, he deployed to France with the American Expeditionary Force and participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in October 1918. Discharged in July 1919, he entered federal service in September 1940 as a Captain and went on to serve with the 88th Infantry Division in July 1942.

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in January 1943 and deployed to Italy in November of that year, where was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in combat -- on one occasion, he captured eight enemy troops personally on reconnaissance operation. Following his discharge in February 1946, he was promoted to the rank of Honorary Brigadier General and passed away on January 8, 1991.
