Dress, American Red Cross Volunteer, Size 12
Great genuine WWII American Red Cross long-sleeved dress, of the type intended for female volunteers of the Hospital and Recreation Corps. Known as the 'Gray Ladies', they provided various non-medical services to patients in military hospitals; by the end of the war, their total number reached 50,000.
Tailored in light blue cotton cloth, the present dress features two loops and a belt made in the same material, two hip pockets and one breast pocket on which has been sewn a white square with an embroidered red cross.
In excellent overall condition, the present dress retains all original buttons and collar label: Shane De Luxe Uniforms, Evansville, Indiana. Size 12.
