Genuine WWII tin of liquid vesicant detector paint, intended for detecting poisonous gas and often applied on motor vehicles, especially on the hood, where the ground-to-air recognition star was painted.
This khaki paint would turn red when vesicants were encountered; troops also applied some of this paint on their helmets.
Manufactured in England by Wm. R. Todd & Son, Ltd in 1943.
Full, untouched condition; found Normandy.
