Genuine WWII German M34 Tornister cowhide rucksack with natural hair.

The innner pocket of the flap held the cleaning utensils, a towel, a sewing kit and a shirt. The centre of the main compartment held the cooking pot with bread ration and cutlery; the sides contained the ankle boots with their cleaning kit, some pairs of socks filling any gaps. Between the flap and the body of the haversack, work trousers and high boots could be placed.

The Tornister was simplified as the war progressed and the cowhide cover was eliminated for economical and practical considerations.

The white leather disc adorned with a red cross sewn on the flap indicates that the present haversack was intended for carrying medical supplies.

Very good, used condition, dated 1943; comes along with a pair of leather suspenders, found in the village of Survie in Normandy.

The town of Survie is located between the Pays d'Auge, the Pays d'Ouche, and the Argentan Plain. Its town center is 11 km north of Exmes, 11 km south of Vimoutiers, 13 km northwest of Gacé, and 14 km west of Trun.
