Helmet, M38, 'Gladiator', Luftschutz, Complete, Named

Rare genuine WWII German M1938 helmet, of the specific 'gladiator' type intended for the Luftschutz. 

Production code RL2-38/28 indicates that the present helmet was made by Paul Diener in Dresden, Saxony.

Created in 1933, the Reichsluftschutzbund — litteraly 'National Air Raid Protection League' — was a civil defense organization intended for educating, training and supervising the civilian population in every aspect of the air raid protection -- fire fighting, preparation of individual and collective dwellings, communication procedures... Led by Luftwaffe general officers, it was redesignated Luftschutz in 1938 and eventually affiliated to the NSDAP in 1944.
