Very good overall condition; the various inscriptions visible inside indicate that the present hat once belonged to some Lieutenant Donald N. Zwiep, officer's ASN O-2060171.
Donald Nelson Zwiep was born on March 18, 1924 in Hull, Iowa and joined the Air Corps on December 14, 1942 (ASN 17131919). He was awarded his pilot wings as a 2nd Lieutenant in May 1944 and qualified on the B-24 Liberator in October, prior to deploying to the China-Burma-India theater of operations from January 19 to November 5, 1945, flying 59 missions with 492nd Bomb. Squadron, 7th Bomb. Group, 10th Air Force. Discharged on December 1st of that year, he retired from the reserve in 1989 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He passed away on April 14, 2012.
