Genuine WWII US Navy Metalsmith Molder 3rd Class Petty Officer insignia. 

Intended to be worn on the gray working uniform, authorized in April 1943, the 'battleship gray' color was intended for providing better camouflage aboard vessels, and was only produced during one year.
