Oval for Jump Wings, 541st PIR

Genuine WWII US Army embroidered cloth oval badge, intended for receiving a pair of 'jump wings' and bearing the colors of the 541st Parachute Infantry Regiment.

Activated at Fort Benning, Georgia in August 1943, the unit was attached to 11th Airborne Division and transferred to the Philippines in July 1945 prior to a possible invasion of Japan. Following the surrender of the Empire of the Rising Sun, the division was employed as an occupation force.
