It then fought in Italy, at Salerno, the Volturno River, Anzio, and Monte Cassino, before taking part in the liberation of Rome. In August 1944, it landed in southern France during Operation Dragoon and advanced through the Rhône Valley, Alsace, and into Germany, reaching Austria via the Brenner Pass.
Its D Company was airborne-qualified and landed in southern France by glider on August 15, 1944, as part of the First Airborne Task Force.
