Genuine WWII US Navy M1 helmet, front rim seam and fixed loops, manufactured by McCord, shell number illegible.
The outer surface of the shell has been covered with a layer of dark blue-gray paint.
Comes along with its liner, manufactured by Firestone, retaining its khaki cotton web suspension and leather sweatband (both damaged), with blackened-brass A washers.
Nice homogeneous set in quite good, worn condition.
Comprising a blue stripe in the lower part, and digit 6 underneath a circle segment — both applied with red paint —, the shell and liner markings were actually made on the occasion of the filming of Saving Private Ryan, in the summer of 1997; the beach scenes were shot in County Wexford, Ireland.
