Genuine WWII US Army sulfadiazine packet, manufactured by The Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Provided in the medical pouch, this type of packet was also issued to every GI from 1942 onwards. When wounded, unless in the throat or abdomen, troops were instructed to swallow eight tablets with a large amount of water.

Sulfadiazine is a sulfonamide antibiotic, which eliminates bacteria that cause infections by stopping the production of folic acid inside the bacterial cell; commonly used to treat urinary tract infections.
