Card, Identification, Medical, 2nd Type, 1945, M/Sgt. Walter Laidlaw, 61st Field Hospital, ETO
Rare genuine WWII US War Departement identification card for medical personnel, of the plasticised type introduced in 1944 to supersede the former cardboard version adopted in 1942.
Issued in accordance with instructions of the 1929 Geneva Convention, which required that protected military and civilian personnel should carry an official document to be recognized as non-fighting personnel.
A Class B Pass issued in England by 61st Field Hospital on July 18, 1944, a lot of six original photographs taken in Belgium and Germany, and a leaflet providing special orders for American-German relations come along with the present card, issued to some Master Sergeant Walter M. Laidlaw on March 24, 1945.
Walter Murray Laidlaw was born on October 24, 1907 in Oakland, California and joined the US Army on May 15, 1943 (ASN 39415503). He went on to serve with the Medical Department and deployed to Europe with 61st Field Hospital. He was discharged on November 2, 1945 as a Master Sergeant, and passed away on December 11, 1988.
