Box, Bottle-Identification, Burial, GRS-Graves Registration Service, Complete
Nice genuine WWII US Army Graves Registration Service cardboard box, containing six glass bottles intended for identifying corpses (Bottle-Identification, Burial - Stock No. 57-B-1000).
If the dog tags were illegible or even missing at the time of the temporary burial, any information available was to be written on the GR Form No. 1 -- or on any other piece of paper.
The document was then placed into the bottle, which was sealed with the plastic screw cap prior to being placed in the left armpit and thus buried with the remains -- the body was to be wrapped in some improvised shroud so that the bottle would stay in place.
Complete and in excellent overall condition; bottles are untouched.
