Nice genuine WWI US M-1917 helmet. In 1917, the British regulation steel helmet, known as the 'Brodie' helmet, was adopted by the US Army. The liner was subsequently replaced by a new type and a webbing chinstrap featuring a quick-release hook superseded the leather version in 1936 -- the M-1917 helmet thus became the M-1917A1. The latter remained in service until the introduction of the modern M1 helmet in 1941.

The present M-1917 is complete and retains its original liner and leather chinstrap (broken). Shell is marked ZC 22. Size 7 1/4.

The outer surface has been entirely covered with a coat of gray paint and a large red cross was subsequently brush-applied on the top.
