Jacket, Ike, Cpl. Carl Swanson, Combat Leader, 2nd Armored Division, ETO
Great genuine WWII US Army regulation Enlisted Men's jacket, as chosen by General Eisenhower in April 1944 -- hence the 'Ike Jacket' denomination under which it soon became popular.
The present jacket retains all its original insignia: 2nd Armored Division shoulder sleeve patch with 'Hell on Wheels' tab, US and Armored Force collar disks, 'Ruptured Duck', Corporal rank stripes with green felt stripes indicating the status of Combat Leader, medal ribbons (European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal), Service Stripe, Overseas Service Bars and Belgian Campaign fourragere. Label is dated June 8, 1944, size 36R. Name Swanson and laundry number S7232 have been handwritten in the collar.
Carl William Swanson was born on May 8, 1909 in River Falls, Wisconsin and joined the US Army on September 21, 1942 (ASN 32557232). He went on to serve with the 2nd Armored Division, deployed to Europe and was discharged on October 17, 1945 as a Corporal. He passed away on March 3, 1975.
