Genuine WWI US Army M1917 Brodie helmet, showing marking ZH 25 stamped on the inner surface of the shell.
The outer surface shows a hand-painted camouflage, based on the German 'turtle' scheme seen on the M1916 Stahlhelm, as well as the 82nd Infantry Division insignia above name G.W. Ethridge.
Quite good, worn condition.
George Washington Ethridge was born on October 4, 1892 in Macon, Georgia and joined the US Army on July 14, 1916 (ASN 114111). He went on to serve with Company C, 151st Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Infantry Division and deployed to France, prior to transferring to 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division.
He was commissioned on October 1st, 1918, tansferred to Company A, 326th Infantry Regiment, 82nd Infantry Division, and was eventually discharged on June 24, 1919 as a 2nd Lieutenant. A veteran of various campaigns and battles, from Lorraine and Champagne to Château-Thierry, he passed away on May 11, 1961.
