Nice genuine WWI US Army M1917 helmet, adorned with a red cross.

Marking ZA 48 has been stamped in the shell. The front has been adorned with a small painted red cross, in the middle of which a 3mm hole has been drilled.

In 1917, the British regulation steel helmet, known as the 'Brodie' helmet, was adopted by the US Army. The liner was subsequently replaced by a new type and a webbing chinstrap featuring a quick-release hook superseded the leather version in 1936 -- the M1917 helmet thus became the M1917A1. The latter remained in service until the introduction of the modern M1 helmet in 1941.

Complete and in good, worn condition.
