Extremely rare genuine WWII US Army M1942 parachute jumper jacket, made in windproof and water-resistant cotton cloth, introduced in December 1941 and intended for being worn with matching trousers. This type is fitted with slanted breast pockets for easier access to contents.
The left shoulder features the 101st Airborne Division shoulder sleeve insignia, with a separate 'Airborne' tab, while each shoulder tab is adorned with a small rectangular piece of white cotton cloth indicating the rank of 1st Lieutenant. A name tag, made in the same material and on which name Parsons. R has been stenciled, has been sewn above the left breast pocket.
Both elbows and lower pockets have been reinforced with thick green, machine-stitched fabric pieces.
Size: 40R.
This coat is in excellent, worn condition, and retains all original snap fasteners; all Conmar zippers are in working order.
Rodney Thomas Parsons was born on September 17, 1918 in Redfield, South Dakota and joined the US Army on July 5, 1940. He was awarded his 'jump wings' and was commissioned (ASN O-386970) prior to serving with Company D, 502nd PIR, 101st Airborne Division -- an outfit with which he parachuted into Normandy on D-Day prior to participating in every major campaign through VE-Day. A recipient of the Bronze Star, wounded in action at Bastogne, he was discharged on May 27, 1947 as a Major, and passed away on February 12, 1981.
