The guns of the Battle of Normandy have been silent for over 80 years, and yesterday’s battlefields are now tourist sites, museums, or memorials. But for the men of the 101st, the battle began in an apple orchard, a marsh, and a wheat field, where they landed in silence by parachute or glider. For thirty days, these men fought relentlessly in the Normandy bocage, finally achieving their objective.
Time has passed, and yesterday’s heroes are now elderly veterans whose wisdom and memories must serve as a guide for younger generations. I had the pleasure of meeting them in their homes or at their veterans’ gatherings, and of seeing that the flame of courage and the “Airborne” spirit still burned in their eyes!
This little book written by Dominique François is based on their testimonies and their photo albums.
