Insignia, No. 349 (Belgian) Squadron, Royal Air Force

Genuine WWII British insignia of the No. 349 (Belgian) Squadron, Royal Air Force.

No. 349 Squadron, formed in 1942 with Belgian personnel, became operational in 1943 in England, flying on Mk V Spitfires. It carried out escort, fighter, and ground attack missions over occupied Europe, notably during the Normandy landings. The squadron took part in the liberation of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and later in the campaign in Germany. After an unsuccessful conversion to Hawker Tempests, it retained its Spitfires until the end of the war in 1945.
