Nice genuine WWII US Army M3 russet leather shoulder holster intended for the Colt M1911A1 Pistol, caliber .45.

Manufactured by Boyt in 1943.

Introduced for Air Forces pilots in 1942, this type was subsequently used in most branches of the military and became particularly popular amongst airborne troops and armored crews.

Complete and in rather good, used condition; snap fastener and Lift-the-Dot are in working order. 

Name J.L. Campbell and ASN 17058563 have been written on the back of the sheath.

James Lee Campbell was born on November 14, 1921 in Furley, Kansas and joined the Air Corps on July 23, 1942. He was soon awarded his bombardier's badge as a Staff Sergeant, went on to serve with 449th Bomb. Squadron, 322nd Bomb. Group, 9th Air Force and flew some 69th missions over German-occupied Europe aboard B-26 Marauders. A recipient of the Air Medal with a total of twelve Oak Leaf Clusters, he was discharged as a Technical Sergeant, and passed away on March 19, 2010.
