Holster, M3, 1st Lt. Lloyd Oehlert, B-17 Pilot, 335th BS, 95th BG, 8th Air Force, USAAF, ETO

Nice genuine WWII US Army M3 russet leather shoulder holster intended for the Colt M1911A1 Pistol, caliber .45.

Manufactured by Enger-Kress.

Introduced for Air Forces pilots in 1942, this type was subsequently used in most branches of the military and became particularly popular amongst airborne troops and armored crews.

Complete and in rather good, used condition; snap fastener and Lift-the-Dot are in working order. 

Name Lloyd G. Oehlert and officer's ASN O-777217 have been written on the back of the sheath.

Lloyd George Oehlert was born on June 21, 1922 in Kansas City, Kansas and joined the Air Corps in 1943. He was awarded his pilot's wings as a 2nd Lieutenant in the spring of 1944, went on to serve in Europe with 335th Bomb. Squadron, 95th Bomb. Group, 8th Air Force and was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in March 1945. He passed away on September 11, 2010.
