Cap, Visor, Schirmmütze, EREL, Officer's, Heer, Artillery, Liberation of Paris, 1944

Great genuine WWII German Wehrmacht visor cap of the Schirmmütze type, intended for a commissioned officer of the Heer, tailored in Feldgrau cloth and featuring the scarlet piping of the Artillery.

Corresponds to U.S. size 7 ⅛.

The present cap, which shows signs of normal wear, is in excellent overall condition and retains its original insignia (bullion eagle, cockade and oak leaves) and chinstrap.

Captured and kept as a souvenir by some Pierre Lheyrissoux (see photograph), a member of the French Forces of the Interior who took part in the liberation of Paris in August 1944, this battle prize was subsequently passed on to the next two generations, and has never transited through the collection market.
