Grouping, Pfc. Roland Avellino, Co. G., 401st Glider Inf. Regt., 82nd Airborne Division, WIA, ETO

Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, made up of a Purple Heart medal coming in its original case along with ribbon bar and lapel badge, a two-part 82nd Airborne Division shoulder sleeve insignia, and a dog tag issued to some Roland V. Avillino [sic], ASN 33508199, vaccinated in 1943 and 1944, blood type A, Catholic.

Very nice homogeneous set, in excellent overall condition.

Roland Guido Avellino was born on January 6, 1913 in Marion Heights, Pennsylvania to Italian parents and joined the US Army on April 26, 1943. Deploying in Europe in 1944, he went on to serve with several units, such as 330th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, as well as Second Battalion, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, which had transferred to 82nd Airborne Division in March 1944. Wounded in action in Germany, he was repatriated on January 28, 1946 and discharged on February 2 of that year as a Private First Class. He passed away on October 24, 1974.
