Scarce genuine WWII US No. 18 survival knife, sometimes incorrectly labelled V-44, manufactured by Collins & Co. and hallmarked on the ricasso, featuring 9in Bowie style blade, brass crossguard and molded bakelite grips. Initially issued in some Air Corps survival kits, this type saw actual combat with the Marine Raiders on Guadalcanal.
Various manufacturers, such as Kinfolks and Case, later produced a very similar machette included in the M-592 Survival Kit and adopted as the V-44.
Comes in its original leather scabbard -- snap fastener of securing strap is in working order. Nice homogeneous set, in good overall condition.
