Map, Silk, Escape, Indonesia, G/H, 1944, RAF & USAAF, Mint
Rare genuine WWII Allied double-sided silk escape map, heat-treated to prevent the cloth from unravelling.
Such items, usually carried in rubberized cloth cases as part of escape-and-evasion kits, were particularly issued to RAF and USAAF aircrews flying over hostile territory -- here, the Dutch West Indies, occupied by the Japanese in 1942, and which officially became Indonesia on August 17, 1945.
Scale: 1:1,000,000. Dated 1944.
The first side (Sheet G) of the present map covers Sumatra (South) and Java (Extreme North West); the second side (Sheet H) covers Borneo (South West), Sumatra (Extreme South), and Java (East and West).
Mint, unissued condition.
Dimensions: 24.60in x 38.18in.
